Scotland Memorial Hospital offers advanced diagnostic imaging technology combined with access to the most sophisticated array of expertise in the region. Our radiologists, nurses, technologists and administrative staff are committed to providing accurate and timely diagnostic services in a professional and friendly environment.

General X-Ray
General X-rays use invisible electromagnetic energy beams to produce computerized images of internal tissues, bones, and organs. Standard x-rays are performed for many reasons, including diagnosing tumors or bone injuries.

Fluoroscopic Procedures
Fluoroscopic Procedures are studies of moving body structures - similar to an x-ray "movie." A continuous x-ray beam is passed through the body part being examined and is transmitted to a TV-like monitor so that the body part and its motion can be seen in detail.

Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear Medicine is a specialized area of radiology that uses very small amounts of radioactive materials to examine organ function and structure.

Positron Emission Tomography (PET Scan)
Positron Emission Tomography (PET scans), provided at Scotland Memorial Hospital through our affiliation with Alliance Imaging, are useful in differentiating malignant tumors from benign tumors as well as determining the extent of or stage of cancer. PET scans also facilitate the accurate, non-invasive detection and staging of heart disease and neurological disorders. PET scans are done on a mobile unit at Scotland Memorial Hospital every other Tuesday.

Ultrasounds
In an ultrasound, sonographic sound waves outline the shape of various tissues and organs in the body to produce images. These images assist the radiologist and medical provider in diagnosis and treatment.

Where to Report
If you are scheduled for any of these procedures, you will report to Scotland Memorial's Outpatient Registration area before proceeding to the Imaging Department. If arriving after 5:00 pm patients must report to the Emergency Center Registration Desk to register for an imaging procedure.
