Medicare has recognized Hospice of Scotland County as a five-star hospice provider in North Carolina. This top-tier rating reflects the organization’s long-standing commitment to delivering safe, high-quality, and compassionate end-of-life care to patients and their families throughout the region.
Medicare’s star rating is based on the national Family Caregiver Survey, which gathers feedback from the loved ones and caregivers of hospice patients. The survey evaluates multiple aspects of care, including communication with family members, timeliness of help, respect for patients, emotional and spiritual support, management of pain and symptoms, the training provided to families, the overall rating of the hospice, and the likelihood that caregivers would recommend the agency. Hospice of Scotland County exceeded the national average in all eight of these categories, demonstrating exceptional performance across both clinical and supportive services.
Now in its 41st year of service, the nonprofit organization has built a strong reputation for its ability to customize care plans to fit the unique needs of each patient. From admission through the end-of-life journey, the care team continually updates the plan of care and ensures that patients and families receive the highest levels of support, dignity, and compassion. The agency places particular emphasis on the final days of a patient’s life, recognizing the heightened needs of both patients and caregivers during that time.
One of the most telling measurements on the Care Compare site reflects how often patients receive visits from a registered nurse or medical social worker in the last days of life. Hospice of Scotland County’s rate of 88.8 percent for patients receiving visits on at least two of the final three days far surpasses the national average of 48.3 percent. This result highlights the organization’s deep commitment to being present and supportive for families during one of life’s most difficult moments.
“This five-star rating is a powerful reflection of the dedication, skill, and compassion shown by our entire team,” said Missy Smith, Hospice of Scotland County administrator. “We are honored that families trust us during one of life’s most important and vulnerable moments.”
Hospice of Scotland County remains committed to providing exceptional care, empowering families, and supporting each individual with compassion and respect throughout the end-of-life process.
