Scotland Health is proud to announce a major advancement in local cancer care with the successful administration of its first bi‑specific antibody drug infusion at the Scotland Cancer Treatment Center, introducing this innovative therapy as a new service for patients.

Bi‑specific therapy represents one of the most advanced innovations in modern cancer treatment, designed to more precisely target cancer cells by engaging the body’s immune system. Until now, patients requiring this highly specialized therapy often had to travel long distances to receive treatment. With the launch of this new service, Scotland Health can now provide this cutting‑edge therapy right here in Laurinburg, allowing patients to remain close to home and their support systems.

“This achievement reflects our commitment to expanding advanced cancer services locally,” said Dr. Sejal Dave, a hematologic oncologist with Duke Health who provides care at the Scotland Cancer Treatment Center through the Duke Cancer Network and led the initiative. “Offering bi‑specific therapy at the Scotland Cancer Treatment Center ensures patients have access to the latest treatments without the added burden of travel.”

The development of this new service began more than a year ago under Dr. Dave’s leadership, in close partnership with teams at Scotland Health and Duke. Implementing bi‑specific therapy required extensive education, careful planning, and the development of new clinical processes to support safe administration, monitoring, and coordination of care.

“This was truly a collaborative effort,” Dr. Dave added. “From nursing and pharmacy to clinical leadership and our Duke partners, every team played a vital role in bringing this new service to our Cancer Treatment Center.”

The addition of bi‑specific antibody therapy further strengthens the Scotland Cancer Treatment Center’s ability to deliver innovative, high‑quality oncology care close to home, reinforcing Scotland Health’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the communities it serves.
