Recently, an incident occurred at Laurinburg Family Practice that has generated concern on social media and media outlets. While we are legally and ethically prohibited from sharing any specific patient information, we want to provide clarification about our general procedures and the circumstances surrounding the event.
During the incident in question, an individual in the lobby was exhibiting behavior that caused significant concern and fear for both staff and other patients. Following our established safety protocols, our team immediately contacted security and local law enforcement to ensure the safety of everyone present.
Medical personnel evaluated the individual and determined they did not appear to be experiencing a medical emergency. The person was then escorted out of the practice.
We understand that because of actions taken by the person outside of the clinic, law enforcement officers made the decision—independent of Scotland Health—to arrest the person.
We realize that seeing or hearing about such events can be upsetting. Please know that our staff attempted to deescalate this situation.
We remain committed to providing a safe, respectful, and compassionate environment—and to protecting the privacy and dignity of every person who seeks care with us.
If you have concerns about safety protocols or would like more information about our general procedures, we welcome your outreach.
