On Thursday, the President signed into law the Lumbee Fairness Act, which provides full federal recognition of the Lumbee Tribe. This legislation corrects an injustice that has existed for centuries and makes the Lumbee Tribe and its members eligible for all services and benefits provided by the federal government to federally recognized Indian tribes.
This has been a long road for the Lumbee People, and today's historic event is the result of generations of Lumbee advocates who never gave up. This recognition is evidence of the strength of Lumbee heritage, resilience, and self-determination. My hearty congratulations go out to the Tribe, and to our Teammates and Patients who are Lumbee.
I am grateful that Scotland Health includes so many dedicated Lumbee Teammates who deliver safe, high-quality, and compassionate care to patients across Scotland, Robeson, and Marlboro counties. We are honored to have many Lumbee Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers on our Medical Staff. Likewise, I am very thankful for the many Lumbees who serve our communities as Trustees, Committee Members, and Volunteers.
Congratulations again to the Lumbee Tribe. We look forward to continuing our partnership to improve the health of the patients and communities we serve.
