Scotland Health is proud to announce Tomas Restrepo, RN, as the recipient of this quarter’s DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Tomas, an overnight ICU nurse at Scotland Memorial Hospital, was honored by hospital leadership and his colleagues for his exceptional compassion, dedication, and professionalism in caring for patients and their families.
The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. Established by the DAISY Foundation, the award honors nurses who go above and beyond in their service, making a profound difference in the lives of those they care for.
Tomas received two heartfelt nominations from family members of patients he cared for, one of which deeply moved the selection committee. The nominator wrote:
“During the most difficult time of my father’s life, his nurse became more than just a caregiver—he was a source of strength, compassion, and comfort for both of us. He treated my father with dignity, respect, and gentleness, ensuring that even in his final days he was cared for with the utmost humanity. What struck me most was not only the skill he brought to his work, but the wisdom and understanding that far surpassed his years of experience. He carried himself with grace and patience, offering words of comfort and acts of kindness that eased our pain in ways I will never forget. For me, he was a quiet anchor in the storm, someone who cared not just for my father’s body but for our hearts as well.”
Scotland Health celebrates Tomas Restrepo for embodying the values of excellence, empathy, and integrity that define the nursing profession. His dedication to patient-centered care and his ability to provide comfort during life’s most challenging moments exemplify the spirit of the DAISY Award.
