Scotland Health is proud to announce the arrival of the da Vinci 5 Surgical System, the most advanced robotic surgery platform developed by Intuitive. This groundbreaking technology represents a major step forward in expanding access to high-quality surgical care for patients in rural communities across the region.
The new da Vinci 5 system will be used by Scotland Health’s general surgery, OB/GYN, and urology teams, enabling them to perform minimally invasive procedures with unprecedented precision, control, and safety. With more than 150 design innovations, the system supports both surgeon autonomy and care team efficiency—ultimately benefiting patients with improved outcomes and faster recoveries.
"We’re committed to ensuring that the newest and best technology is available to the patients and communities we serve," said David Pope, CEO of Scotland Health. "The da Vinci 5 surgical robot is an excellent complement to our highly skilled surgeons and our new and expanded operating rooms. This is another example of how Scotland Health is providing care that is both closer and better."
The da Vinci 5 builds on over a decade of research and more than 14 million procedures performed worldwide using earlier generations of the technology. This newest model introduces Force Feedback technology, allowing surgeons to feel and measure the force exerted on tissue—leading to gentler, safer procedures and potentially reducing complications.
With next-generation 3D imaging, enhanced computing power, and seamless integration with tools like SimNow™ (a virtual reality simulator) and Intuitive Hub™, the system supports real-time data use and future AI-assisted insights. Its improved ergonomic design ensures that surgeons of all body types, including those who are pregnant, can operate in optimal comfort and precision.
Bringing this level of technology to a rural hospital system like Scotland Health is especially meaningful. With improved efficiency and workflow features, the da Vinci 5 allows care teams to maximize operating room time and hospital resources—helping more patients receive care closer to home.
“Our surgeons are now equipped with tools that allow them to feel more, see more, and do more for their patients,” said Dr. Brian Parkes, Chief of Surgery at Scotland Health. “For our community, that translates into better outcomes and greater peace of mind.”
Scotland Health continues to invest in innovation that improves patient care. The da Vinci 5 is more than just a robot—it’s a symbol of the health system’s ongoing mission to provide top-tier, compassionate care right here at home.
