Greg Wood Retirement

After more than three decades of service, Scotland Health President and CEO, Greg Wood, is stepping down. Wood announced his plan at Tuesday’s Scotland Health Board of Trustees meeting. His retirement will be effective Dec. 31, 2023.

“I’m deeply grateful and humbled by the support I’ve received throughout my 30 years with Scotland Health,” Wood said. “It has truly been a privilege to lead such a tremendous organization, but it’s time for a change. We’re in a strong and stable position and I’m confident the staff, trustees and providers will maintain our unique culture that have made us the premier rural health care system of the Carolinas.”

The Board agreed to appoint a search committee which will conduct a national search for the next CEO.
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees of Scotland Health and our entire community, we want to thank Greg for his insightful and committed Leadership over the past three decades,” said Sybil Bullard, who chairs the board. “During his leadership, we have experienced many successes and he has led us through many challenges, including the COVID-19 Pandemic, an unprecedented public health issue. Greg has cultivated a philosophy and an environment which united the talents of our medical and hospital staff,  along with our committed community trustees to provide the highest and safest care for each and every patient we have the opportunity to serve.”

“We have had a tremendous partnership with Greg and we congratulate him on his well-deserved retirement,” said Chris Bowe, senior vice president and chief operating officer for Atrium Health, the managing partner for Scotland Health. “Rural health care is essential to our state and our community. Keeping high-quality care close to home is extremely important to us, which is reflected in our ongoing commitment with Scotland Health. We look forward to working closely with the board to identify the best person to lead Scotland Health into the future.”

“While many small and rural hospitals are struggling and even closing, the communities we serve of Scotland, Robeson and Marlboro can be assured their health care system is strong and will remain successful,” added Bullard. “ As we conduct our search, we will keep our communities and dedicated staff informed of our progress."
