Support Groups provide an important source of emotional and psychological benefit for patients and their friends and families. These support groups offer assistance in the coping and healing process. Meeting space for some of these groups is provided by Scotland Health Care System and some groups receive funding by Scotland Memorial Foundation.
All of these support groups are open to anyone with an interest in the topic. Please note that some support groups do not meet during the summer months.
Alzheimer's Support Group
A friendly place for caregivers to talk, listen and learn more about Alzheimer's Disease and the impact on families. Meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of the month in Scotland Memorial Hospital's Board Room at 7:00 p.m. Contact Margaret Herring at 910-276-1707 for information. The Alzheimer's Support Group receives support by Scotland Memorial Hospital through the use of meeting space.
Breastfeeding Support Group
Education, assistance, and mother to mother support. The group meets the first Wednesday of each month in the Staff Development Center from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. For more information call The Women's Center at 910-291-7820.
Caregivers Support Group
A support system for those who are currently caring for a loved one, or who have recently been caregivers. This group meets the first Thursday of every month from 6 to 8 p.m., at Scotland Regional Hospice. Contact Tanya Williams at Hospice at 910-276-7176 for more information.
Circle of Hope Women's Cancer Support Group
A support group for women have had or are newly diagnosed with cancer. The group meets the fourth Friday of each month from noon to 1:00 p.m., in the Hospital's Staff Development Center. Lunch is provided by Scotland Memorial Foundation. Call Mary Callahan-Lopez at 910-291-7630 for information.
Diabetes Support Group
The Community Diabetes Support Group is a joint effort between Scotland Memorial Hospital and the Scotland County Health Department. The group's emphasis is on education and support for those with diabetes and their family members. The Diabetes Support Group meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 5:30p.m.-6:30p.m. in the W.R. Grief Support Group
For anyone who has lost a loved one. Group meets at Scotland Regional Hospice for eight consecutive weeks at 5:30 p.m. Participants are urged to attend all eight sessions. Contact Hospice at 910-276-7176 for meeting dates and to register.
Multiple Sclerosis Support Group
Emotional and educational support for MS and stroke patients and their family members. Meetings are typically held the 2nd Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Rehab Center at Scotland Memorial Hospital. Call Juanita Swinney-Griffith at 910-291-7327. Parkinson's Support Group
Meetings are the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Scotia Village (2200 Elm Ave., Laurinburg in the Wellness Center inside the aerobics room. This group meets in a comfortable setting with emphasis on caring and sharing of experiences that members have faced since being diagnosed with Parkinson's. The Stroke Support Group
Emotional and educational support for stroke patients and their family members.
