Computed Tomography Scan (CT or CAT Scan)
Computed tomography is a diagnostic imaging procedure that uses a combination of x-rays and computer technology to produce images of the body. A CT scan shows detailed images of any part of the body, including bone, tissue, organs and blood vessels. CT scan images are more detailed than standard x-rays.
MAKO Robotic-Assisted Joint Surgery
The Mako robotic-arm assisted technology provides patients with a personalized surgical plan based on their unique anatomy. A 3D model of the hip or knee will be used to pre-plan and assist your surgeon in performing total hip replacement or partial knee replacement. The Mako technology provides the surgeon with a patient-specific 3-D model to pre-plan the partial knee replacement. During surgery, the surgeon guides the Mako robotic-arm based on your patient-specific plan. This allows the surgeon to remove only the diseased bone, preserving healthy bone and soft tissue, and assists your surgeon in positioning the implant based on the patient’s unique anatomy.
A digital mammogram differs from a film mammogram in that it uses a special detector to capture and convert x-ray energy into a digital image. The procedure and appearance of the machine and even the images produced are very similar to a traditional film mammogram—the advantage really comes from the ability to manipulate the image electronically. Images can be enlarged, lightened, or darkened. While digital mammography does not "see" anymore than x-ray mammography, it can be more effective for physicians diagnosing breast lumps, especially for women under age 50 who tend to have denser breast tissue.
The Linear Accelerator allows Scotland Cancer Treatment Center to perform services that includes Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT). IMRT is an advanced mode of high-precision radiotherapy that allows the safe delivery of higher radiation doses to malignant tumors or specific areas within the tumor than is possible with conventional radiotherapy techniques. IGRT provides tools needed to manage motion caused by breathing, heart and gastric motility, tumor changes, patient changes and to improve the accuracy of treatment delivery.
Tablets in the Emergency Center
Patients who visit Scotland Memorial’s Emergency Department can now engage in real-time feedback with staff, better understand their health conditions and discharge instructions, request information regarding a primary care provider, sign up for the patient portal, and enjoy games and other content while waiting in Scotland's Emergency Center.
Patient Lift System in the Surgical Wing
An overhead patient lift system was installed in one patient room, located in the surgical wing on the 2nd floor, designed with additional space to provide patients with extra security and comfort while simultaneously reducing strain on clinicians’ muscles as they move patients with various conditions and levels of mobility. The patient lift system can accommodate weights up to 650 pounds.
Refractive Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery and like LASIK, brings a new standard of precision to cataract surgery. This custom, blade-free, laser assisted cataract removal option allows Dr. Kurt Jute to plan and perform cataract surgeries to exacting, individualized specifications unattainable with standard cataract surgery.
When it comes to treating victims of strokes, time is crucial. For that reason, Scotland Health Care System offers a telestroke program - this programs offers tele-medicine videoconferencing technology - to help fill gaps in a critical need and saves precious minutes when dealing with strokes.
